// METAL FABRICATION

Railings, gates, and enclosures, priced from the spec.

Metal fabrication CPQ for railings, fencing and gates, enclosures, brackets, and frames sold through dealers and distributors. Run length, gauge, material, finish, and cutouts become fields with your rules behind them, so the price is right the first time and the work order is complete.

001 // WHERE FABRICATION ORDERS BREAK

Every quote goes through estimating. Most of them shouldn't have to.

Gauge, material, run length, finish, cutouts. Here is where fabrication orders go wrong today, and what changes when your rules drive the form.

01 · TODAY

Gauge and material

14 or 16 gauge. Cold-rolled, galvanized, stainless, aluminum. Not every gauge comes in every material, and the price moves with both.

IN PAINLESS

Guided rules offer only the gauges you run for the chosen material and say why the rest are disabled. Price grids key on any two dimensions, like size × gauge.

Railing and fence runs

Runs priced by the linear foot, with a post every six feet, corners, end caps, and a gate or two. Someone counts the parts by hand on every quote.

IN PAINLESS

Run length is a field. Posts, caps, and brackets come from rules on the bill of materials, and gates are options with their own hardware, price, and production step.

03 · TODAY

Finish and custom colors

Powder coat in a stock color or a custom match, galvanized, or mill finish. Custom colors carry a setup charge that someone forgets to add.

IN PAINLESS

Finishes are a collection with % or $ upcharges. An auto formula adds the custom-color charge to the order and recalculates when the order changes. We set up the formula with you.

Cutouts and hole patterns

Knockouts, window cutouts, louvers, mounting holes. Each one changes the part, the material, and the machine time.

IN PAINLESS

Cutouts are fields with limits and rules. Their positions show on the work order, and routing conditions add the steps and time estimates a part needs only when it needs them.

Tolerances and inspection

A tight-tolerance part needs a different inspection, and the shop needs to know before the blank is cut, not after.

IN PAINLESS

Validations hold sizes to your limits before the dealer can submit. A tight-tolerance option adds a QC step with its own instructions, and operators acknowledge station notes before they start.

Dealer pricing on repeat parts

The same bracket, 200 at a time, at a price that depends on who's ordering and what they negotiated.

IN PAINLESS

Dealer and dealer-group discounts, per-dealer price multipliers, and payment terms apply automatically. Dealers order from the portal, or from their own system through the dealer REST API.

A welded enclosure, station by station.

When an order goes In Process, every unit gets a work order with its materials, instructions, and routing. The route comes from the product definition, so an enclosure with a hinged door picks up its door step and a cover-only box skips it.

A work order per unit

BOM, configuration, and instructions are snapshotted when the order goes In Process. No re-keying.

Tablets at each station

Pick, Build, Finish with one big button. Operators report problems and acknowledge station notes.

Travelers and labels

Barcode labels for every piece, auto-printed to Zebra, Brother, or Dymo printers.

Stock that keeps up

On the Everything plan, orders reserve sheet and bar stock, shortages are flagged, and a nightly scan proposes POs.

003 // QUESTIONS

What fabricators ask us.

Can dealers configure parts by gauge, material, and finish?

Yes. Each field carries your rules: gauges limited by material, finishes limited by gauge, sizes held to your minimum and maximum. Disabled options show the reason, and price grids can key on any two dimensions, such as size × gauge.

Can we price railing and fence runs by the foot?

Yes. Run length is a field like width and height, and the price comes from your per-foot rate for the style, material, and finish. Posts, caps, and brackets are counted by rules on the BOM, and gates are options with their own hardware and price.

Can dealers order from their own purchasing systems?

Yes. The dealer REST API lets a dealer place orders from their own system, and signed webhooks tell that system when an order's status changes. We issue the API keys.

Can tight-tolerance parts get an extra inspection?

Yes. Routing steps can depend on product options, so a tight-tolerance part picks up its QC step and instructions automatically. Operators sign to complete, and problem reports flag quality issues for rework.

Does Painless track sheet and bar stock?

On the Everything plan, yes. Orders reserve materials, shortages are flagged, and a nightly replenishment scan proposes purchase orders to your vendors. Negative stock never blocks production.
